Washington State X-CWho Would Win? Here's how we figured the mythical meet between the five championship teams. First, we took the State Meet results from 1970 to 1974 (the state championship years), and listed each Bomber runner by order of time at the state meet (see rankings, below). Then we scored each team based on the rankings, using the usual cross country scoring system (ie 1 point for first place, 2 for second, etc...and of course low score wins). Thus top-ranked Mark Higginson (of 1972) scores 1 point for the 1972 team; Guy Tunnell adds 10 more points for his tenth-place ranking, etc. Make sense? Here's the team results, followed by the overall ranking of all 35 Bomber state-champion runners.
